Street, Travel & Documentary Photography Workshop
New York
New York is a city built on movement, tension, rhythm and endless human stories. Every street carries a different pulse; every block shifts in atmosphere, light and identity. This workshop is designed for photographers who want to sharpen their documentary vision, work with intention, and produce sequences that reflect the complexity of one of the world’s most dynamic urban environments.
Led by documentary photographer Daniel Rodrigues, this four-day intensive programme combines fieldwork, editing, individual guidance and critical discussion. The aim is not to chase clichés of New York, but to learn how to read the city — its pace, its patterns, its light and its human presence — and to transform observation into coherent visual storytelling.
Maximum: 8 participants
Minimum: 5 participants
Duration: 4 intensive days
Fee: 900€ / 1050$ per participant
Two edition available:
Workshop taught entirely in English

Why New York?
New York is one of the strongest documentary environments on the planet. It offers an extraordinary combination of fast movement, multicultural life, architectural structure and light that changes rapidly across avenues, narrow streets and open spaces.
Each neighbourhood reveals a distinct visual language:
• Manhattan — density, pace, geometry, reflections
• Harlem — community, rhythm, authenticity
• Brooklyn — layered textures, transitions, quiet and intensity
• Queens — cultural diversity and everyday life
• Chinatown — compressed movement and unique atmosphere
• Lower East Side — urban character and strong contrasts
New York is not about spectacle — the spectacle is constant.
What matters is how you navigate it, how you identify a moment, how you read a gesture or a shift in light.
This workshop is ideal for photographers who want to develop:
• fast and accurate scene reading
• timing and anticipation in high-intensity environments
• a respectful, culturally aware human approach
• the ability to edit with clarity and purpose
• documentary storytelling in fast-moving urban spaces
New York teaches precision, resilience and a deeper understanding of human complexity.
