Portugal - A Country on Fire

AVEIRO, PORTUGAL - 17 September 2024.

Another day of indomitable fires in Portugal: several deaths, uncounted injuries and a trail of destruction.

There are already seven fatalities from the fires that have hit the country since the weekend. The injured are still being counted, as are the houses destroyed by the flames. A state of calamity was declared in all affected municipalities.

Seven people died and 40 were injured, two seriously, in the fires that have hit the North and Center regions of the country since Sunday, in the districts of Aveiro, Porto, Vila Real and Viseu, and which destroyed dozens of houses and forced the cutting of roads and highways.
