Leica M EV1 video Rui Caria Portugal 2025, villages after the 2025 wildfires

A Leica piece on villages in central Portugal after the 2025 wildfires.

To mark the launch of the new Leica M EV1, I filmed a short video with Rui Caria in central Portugal, travelling through villages severely affected by the summer 2025 wildfires, the largest burned area on record in the region.

I shot the footage; Rui, a long-time friend, edited it. The aim wasn’t to search for beauty in the ashes, but to face what remains after the flames: traces, suspended gestures, and the fragility of communities that endure.
