On 20 June I led a photowalk with Fujifilm Portugal at Air Invictus, the first international air show in Porto. We spent the day along the banks of the Douro, between the Arrábida bridge and the D. Luís I bridge, photographing the aircraft over the river and the people watching them go by.


Air Invictus ran from 19 to 21 June across Porto, Gaia, Maia and Matosinhos, free to attend. The heart of it was on the river, where the Air Race circuit was set up with eight pilots flying aerobatics low over the water, along with Portuguese Air Force flypasts and, after dark, a thousand drones over the D. Luís I bridge.

The group was six people, so there was time with each one. Fujifilm Portugal provided the bodies and six Fujinon lenses that rotated through the day, from the wide angle to the 500 and 600mm super telephotos for the aircraft far out over the river. The point wasn't to come home with hundreds of loose files, but with an edited sequence that told the story of the day, from the morning briefing to the closing at Jardim do Morro. Each participant left with individual written feedback on their photographs.
