  • My name is Daniel Rodrigues I'm a Portuguese photojournalist, born in Compiègne, France, in 1987.

I moved to Portugal when I was 10 years old, the country where I still live today. I became a professional photographer after completing the photography course at the Portuguese Institute of Photography in 2010. My career began at Correio da Manhã, and I later joined Global Imagens, working for newspapers such as Jornal de Notícias, Diário de Notícias, and O Jogo.

In 2013, I won first place in the Daily Life category at World Press Photo. In 2015, I was named the third-best photographer of the year by POYi (Picture of the Year International). In 2017, I was awarded Ibero-American Photographer of the Year by POY LATAM, and also received third place as Photographer of the Year by NPPA, among many other distinctions.

Throughout my career, I have worked with some of the world’s most respected newspapers and magazines, including The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Libération, Al Jazeera, Expresso, Público, and many others.

I am currently based in Porto and work internationally as a freelance photojournalist. Since March 2015, I have been a regular contributor to The New York Times.

  • This website brings together the different dimensions of my work as a photographer: long-term documentary projects, editorial assignments, travel stories, corporate and institutional commissions, documentary wedding photography, and workshops designed for photographers who want to work with greater intention. Everything begins in the same place: real situations, natural light and a commitment to looking closely at the world.

Over the past fifteen years I have photographed in more than thirty countries, from dense urban centres to remote communities and regions in transition. My approach is rooted in photojournalism and documentary practice. I prefer to work quietly, observing how people move through space, how light shapes a street, how daily routines reveal the character of a place. The images grow from proximity, patience and respect, not from staging or spectacle.

Alongside editorial work for international publications, I collaborate regularly with companies, institutions and public organisations. Corporate photography, approached through a documentary lens, becomes a way of understanding how people work, how environments function and how identity is built from the inside. These commissions range from manufacturing and industry to culture, architecture, tourism, urban development and communication for public entities.

I also photograph weddings in Portugal and abroad, applying the same principles I use in editorial work: a quiet presence, attention to emotional structure, and the belief that meaningful images come from real interactions, not direction. Documentary wedding photography allows a day to unfold naturally, with honesty and narrative continuity.

On this site you will find portfolios of photojournalism, travel work, personal projects, stories from Porto and other cities, as well as a selection of fine art prints, posters and box sets available for collectors, institutions and private spaces. Each section reflects a different way of working with the same tools: attention, narrative and an interest in the emotional structure of everyday life.

Workshops in cities such as Porto, Lisbon, Marrakech, Berlin, New York and others are an extension of this practice. They are designed for photographers who want to work with documentary intent, refine their ability to read a scene, and build coherent series rather than isolated images. The teaching is practical, grounded in experience from the field and focused on helping participants develop their own way of seeing.

If you are looking for an experienced photographer for editorial, corporate, institutional or wedding commissions — or if you are interested in acquiring prints and visual stories for your home, office or public space — you can explore the dedicated sections of this site or get in touch directly. The aim is always the same: to produce honest, carefully constructed images that carry a strong sense of place and human presence.
